3奇士, 旅者樂隊 / Sunkiss and The Travellers: 賀新年(迷老鼠)Mini Mouse 拜年!/ Happy Year of the Rat Mini Mouse!

This 1972 pop novelty record on the Le Feng (Life Records) label out of Malaysia, the title of which roughly translates to "Happy Year of the Rat Mini Mouse", contains four New Year songs. The band is The Travellers, a prolific psych rock band from Singapore; the singers are credited only as The Sunkiss, which were two guys doing a Chipmunks routine (singing at half speed, then sped up to 200%). They never had another record so I don't know who they are; I prefer to think it's the President of the label and his brother-in-law.

賀新年 / Happy New Year
恭喜發財 / Wishing You Prosperity and Health
恭喜恭喜 / Congratulations
幸福年 / Happy Year

Artists Unknown: The Groupies

Alan Lorber produced this stone classic for Earth Records in 1969, and although the names of the four voices are not all documented, one of the pairs of girls speaking is Sheila "Cleo" Odzer and Carol "Cookie" Tandy. Cleo's life in particular turned out to be a nutty ride: she was born in New York in 1950 and was already a busy groupie on the NYC music scene by 1968. She was either engaged and then not engaged, or never engaged, to Keith Emerson of the Nice; she spent most of the 1970s in Europe and the Middle East, ending up in the hippie communities of Anjuna in north Goa, India; and her involvement in international drug smuggling eventually led to her arrest. When she came back to the USA in the late 1970s, she went to college and graduate school, finally earning a PhD in anthropology; she wrote a book about prostitution in Thailand, and another book about Goa. She hosted her own show, "Cleo's Adventures", for Manhattan public access TV; she wrote another book, this one about cybersex; and she died in 2001.
