God never has destroyed any nation unless he told his preachers about it! Which is why before the United States was obliterated by Communism in 1972, God told his friend Estus Pirkle to preach this sermon so that one day some smartass collage artists in the Bay area might sample him on their album Helter Stupid. And when the leather-clad commies rode up on their black stallions to tempt those innocent Americans named "Christian", "TV", "Alcoholic Drink", "Fashion", and "Dance Sex" (hey, that's my uncle!), they had no defense against the college-radio dance hit of 1987 and they became record collectors and hipsters chasing Negativland samples to the end of their days. Amen.
(Please note: Although this record is the source of many wonderful Pirkle samples from Helter Stupid, it is NOT the source of the samples used on the track "Christianity Is Stupid" on Escape From Noise, the source recording for which must wait to be revealed another day. In the meantime, load side one and jump straight to your favorite samples "What am I sayin?" at 13:46; "They gotta pull their clothes off" at 14:24; "Give enough monkeys enough typewriters" at 14:40; and "You needed sex so we provided the girls" at 17:54. And quell your disappointment over the fact that the big "Christianity is stupid" riff on side 2 at 13:32 isn't exactly what you remember from those Negativland records by playing a drinking game where you take a shot every time Estus says "O ladies and gentlemen". Boy is God going to be disappointed with YOU!)
Hat tip to Rich Lindsay for the loan of the LP!
