Here’s the fourth album of songs by Serge Jaroff’s Don
Cossacks on Columbia Masterworks and the second released as a long-player,
Religious Music (ML 2163) from 1950. Their version of “In Church (from Album for Children)” swirls equal
parts brooding and religious awe into a concoction that’s just about the
heaviest thing imaginable. You know, for kids!
Gretchaninoff: Augmented Litany (After the Gospel)
Rachmaninoff: Ave Maria (from “Evening Service”)
Traditional: Funeral Service (Adapted to commemorate those who
have died in the recent war)
Tchaikovsky: In Church (from “Album For Children”)
Traditional: Let All Mortal Flesh
Tchesnokoff: Alleluia (from “Requiem”)
Folksong: Christmas Song
